BOO! HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Boo!

King is ready for the ghouls and goblins of the season. Mr. Pettit and students from his Stage and Set Design class have been busily putting up their creepy creations. Come and visit our campus and our main office. You will be spookily surprised by their creativity, imagination and scary thoughts in their heads.

Campus Parking Reminders

To our Parents, Grandparents, Aunties and Uncles who transport our Cobras to and from school:

Help us keep our campus safe for our students and staff by adhering to our drop-off and pick-up routes. Please note parking areas that are restricted to King staff and/or Windward District Office personnel and their visitors. Please do not block their entry/exit by double parking in those lots.   Also, our students are reminded to use the crosswalks but please keep a careful eye out for them. Thanks!

Make Report Card Time a Positive One for Everyone

Report Card Time

First quarter report cards were mailed home during the Fall recess. For some students and families, it will be a time for smiles and congratulations.  For others, it may be a time of disappointment and frustration.  How parents react to a report card is very important to your child.

Tips for Parents:
SIT DOWN with your child and look over the report card.
PRAISE YOUR CHILD. Find at least one good thing, e.g. a good grade, good attendance.
BE CALM! Let your child tell you about his/her grades – the good and the bad.
ASK your child what he/she can do to earn better grades.
ASK your child how you can help him/her do better in school.

If improvement is needed, MAKE A SPECIFIC PLAN with your child. Poor grades are often due to frequent absences, missing assignments, and/or poor quality of work turned in. For example:  "Your homework time will be from 3:00-5:00 p.m., everyday, TV/cell phone will be off. No work, no play." or "I will check your planner daily for written assignments and due dates." Look at your family schedule to make sure that it allows for time/quiet/space for homework. Prioritize events and appointments.
Support daily, on-time attendance to school.
Encourage attendance to school tutorial (schedule below)
Encourage your child to ask for HELP from teachers and/or counselor.

Parents: What grade would you give yourself at report card time?
If you haven't received a report card by October 17th, please call your child's counselor at 233-5727 (7th - Ms. Anderch, ext. 230 and 8th-Ms. Mumaw, ext. 232)

Cobra Basketball is Here

King Intermediate’s Cobra Basketball program will be having an informational meeting on October 16, 2014.  Students attending this meeting will be given the necessary paperwork and information needed to participate.  In order to participate in tryouts, practices & games, students must have a current physical from their doctor (good for a year), a parent permission form and student conduct form BEFORE trying out. If student participated in volleyball or cross country, we already have their paperwork and they just need to show up for tryouts.  There is a $25 fee for those who make the team.

The following are the meeting, tryout & game dates:

October 16: Informational Meeting, 2:30 p.m., King Gym
December 1, 2, 4, 5: Basketball Tryouts
January 24, 31, February 7, 14: Basketball Games, King Gym

Please have physical forms completed as soon as possible. Meetings will be announced in the morning bulletin as the dates draw near.  All practices will be from 3:15 – 4:45 pm at King’s Gym, Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri.  We emphasize academics and proper behavior throughout the season. Go Cobras!
