King Advisory Program

                    Our Mission
"To challenge the minds
and nurture the hearts
of our students."

King's Advisory program (period 8 on your child's schedule) is a vital part of fulfilling our school's mission. Via the study hall periods (Tues and Thurs) and the guidance period (Wed), the Advisory class addresses both the mind and hearts of our students. Through study hall, students are encouraged and supported to achieve success in their classes. Through the guidance classes, our student's personal and social development is nurtured and reinforced. Emphasis is on continuing to "Live the 5Rs," which many of them know through their elementary years in Kaneohe schools.  We introduce and integrate the  "7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens" for our 7th grade students and "6 Most Important Decisions" for our 8th grade students. Advisory teachers use videos, class discussions, lessons and activities to convey the weekly theme. Students are encouraged to reflect upon their own behaviors and attitudes, and their role in building a positive school for themselves and others.

Parents can support our Advisory program and the development of their child by talking with their son or daughter about the week's topic. Ask to explain to you what they learned. Share your thoughts, experiences, and stories about the topic. Let them know that you support these lessons and encourage their practice in your home and family.
