Catch the Wave....HSA 2013

HSA 2013 begins in a few weeks for our 7th and 8th grade students. A HSA kick-off assembly on Jan. 10 will get them off to a good start with a positive, "can do" frame of mind. Teachers and students have been working diligently throughout the first semester, making sure they are learning important skills and concepts, and understanding that "student achievement matters." Academic achievement matters not only for students and families, but also for our school. We want to make sure that we are providing an education that takes our students to their dreams and goals by preparing them for high school and beyond.

Parents and families can help our students do their best by paying attention to these test taking strategies:
  • Make sure your child is well-rested, eats nutritious foods and gets daily exercise
  • Establish a reasonable bedtime and provide an alarm clock for on-time wake-up.
  • Make a healthy breakfast part of their morning routine, either at home or at our cafeteria
  • Be prepared by having books, backpacks and clothes ready the night before. Allow time for traffic, weather and other possible delays.
  • Arrive at school with time to spare...to talk with friends, eat breakfast in the cafeteria and to report to the first class on-time.
  • Speak positively to your child about testing. Acknowledge that testing can be challenging, but encourage them to put forth their best effort and don't give up. Reassure them that they will have 3 testing opportunities to demonstrate their abilities (highest score counts) and what really counts is that they have done their best!
Students are tested in their English, Math or Science classes. It is an on-line test that is conducted in our computer labs.
HSA Reading Testing begins Jan.14
HSA Math Testing begins Jan. 22
HSA Science (8th only) Testing begins Feb. 4

HSA Parent Information booklets were sent home with students the week of Nov. 26th. If you did not receive a booklet from your child, you may pick one up from our school front office. It will also be available online very shortly at our King School website (see link on sidebar).

King and Castle Registration Materials Distributed Today

Your child received important registration materials for King and Castle in their advisory class today (1/15/13). They also watched a video informing them of the various elective classes they can select at King and Castle. The registration process for the next school year is very important and parents need to look over the registration manual and your child's registration card carefully. Your signature, approving their registration card is required. In many instances, once scheduled, changes in elective choices are not allowed. Please attend to registration carefully and have your child turn in their registration card to their Advisory teacher by the deadline: January 24, 2013
